C&C4 requires constant internet connection
« on: July 16, 2009, 01:34:47 PM »

EA has confirmed that the final installment of its RTS franchise Command & Conquer will be unplayable for anyone without a constant internet connection.

While this means that the game will ship without any kind of DRM, many fans of the series are angry about the restrictions it will place on their gaming.

Since even the single-player campaign requires a live connection, it will no longer be possible to play C&C in situations where it may be hard or impossible to go online

Been reading more into this recently, they've basically gone the same way of ubisoft, no net = no gaming, sucks eh!

You really must play cnc4 on the plane train or bus? Seriously?
I'd be happy playing masters of orion 2, or reading a book.
If you're desperate to do it anyway, I hear 3G contracts have come down in price, if you have the money to pay for the hardware to run this in a mobile environment you probably already have 3G.

True, I can't imagine any gamers (unless they are at a LAN) who do not have web access - even if dial-up / 3g

These people have a right to protect their investment, I've always thought games being locked to online accounts (like steam) is the way forward, as long as the developers provide the incentive with decent online play or content patches.

I believe most of this uproar is being caused by people who do like their games for free, because there can't be that many people who could play cnc4 but don't have internet connections.

The game probably isn't any good anyway, think Alex has it, he didn't sound enthralled last night.

I'd be happy enough if they copied it and added new effects / graphics

ZH was good fun, but graphics feel a tad dated in line with everything else now
