Purchasing HL2
« on: December 05, 2004, 08:24:35 PM »
Right, need help ish.

My dad bought an ati vid card with the HL2 cd key scratchcard, he just remembered he's got it and said i could have it, so, installed steam registered an account and activated the cd key.

I then went browse games and it says that i can purchase the gold pack at a discount and the total is $40 +p&p and tax. I figured that being as i didn't buy the game in the first place this was a good deal, the problem is:-

1. I don't have a credit card = searched the support files and couldnt find out if i could use my mums card or the missus card, so, the question here is have any of you used someone elses card and succeded with NO problems at all.

2. This is all done via steam in the USA i.e. www.steampowered.com = if i go ahead and get the gold pack will they ship the merchandise to my uk address as i can't get past the credit card screen, cos' if they won't then there is no point.

3. I'm also scared to close the window as it might not re-open with the special deal, so all the windows are still open and i won't turn the pc off till i know  .

4. Do you guys think this is a good deal as i've never played HL or CS at all.

Thanks for all your'e help

I wouldnt recommend using some1 elses card without checking with valve first, theyre VERY touchy about cc fraud and have banned loads of accounts over it
Nostalgia isn't what it used to be.

afaik as long as the card you use isn't stolen and you enter ALL the details in correctly you shouldn't have a problem.

Valve are very touchy but the use of someone elses card isn't a problem. I've read hundreds of threads on steampowered about people who haven't got credit cards....the universal answer is 'use your friends/mums/dads' etc

If you get one smallest detail wrong entering the card however they disable the account until you can prove the card isn't stolen. But it can't hurt to check with valve, pop over to steampowered and use the support function.  :)

if uve activated the game then u should be able 2 play both hl2 and cs:s at no extra cost, imho the gold pack is a waste of money u just get a poster and a cap etc, no extra game content ;)

you can buy HL2 with CS:source through "retail" - IE u get a dvd with it on - but still beed to connect to STEAM to download the patches.

Or you can pay STEAM online and download the whole kit.

When purchasing online, there are 3 packages u can download

a: HL2 & CS:S
b: HL2 & CS:S & DOD:S
c: The works

Price increases from a to c

Bump of the year award ...

Can you still do Bronze/Silver/Gold ?

I remember i bought silver which was a good move because now i can get DOD: Source and the upcoming Blue Shift addon they're re-releasing on Steam (which wasn't too bad in the first place).

I'd say it's probably worth plumping the extra for Silver, but Gold is a bit extreme as it comes with lots of merchandise.
