Topic highjack, saves starting a new one...........

got a small problem, 1942, start the game and my monitor and my projector say the signal is out of range. I google for it and found out that if i run 1942 in windows 98/me compatability  mode it works fine,

the question is does or has anyone have this prob and did they find a cure???

cheers.

have you set it to a high resolution that your monitor / projector can not cope with? Does anyone know how to reset the res?

goto the folder

E:\EA GAMES\Battlefield 1942\Mods\bf1942\Settings\Profiles\Huum
(mod for where you have the game installed)
and open the file video.con in wordpad and edit this line

game.setGameDisplayMode 1024 768 32 60

Are you using DVI or VGA for the projector, maybe your GFX card can't do both at sametime, such as DVI to screen and VGA to projector.

Regarding res, usually projectors can have an imput upto 1280x960 and put it out at 1024x768.

just an idea Smiley

I dont see why it wouldn't be able to considering it's only using the DAC for the VGA output ...

As dumb as this may seem it was all working fine, then, just out of the blue, one day it decided not to, didnt touch anything.

Had an internal examination, so did the pc (oh dear) and no dust or funny smells, wiggled a few things (dont touch a capacator on the top when machine is turned on) but still nothing.

will be doing a reinstall before the next lan anyway as i went to www.play.com and bought some games i already have, nudge nudge wink wink, so instead of uninstalling them to put new keys in i thought ill just reinstall instead, might get a few bugs out of the system.

Will let you know what happens.

The reason I asked, was does it go funny when the screen saver comes into effect or other similar things?
e.g. might be fine when windows is active and surfing he web etc. but when screensaver comes on it goes funny.

If the above does or doesn't happen;

This could be down to a dodgy driver for your card, the reason I think this is because XP runs on NT technology, and 98/me didn't. So that would explain you being able to run it fine on 98 compatability. Are you therefore using either an old driver or a new one for wrong version of windows by accident?
If this is fine I would then think it is an issue with DirectX, e.g is it latest version etc

dunno just my 2 cents
