been a fan of this since my younger days

now its on the pc, my played it most of sunday.

very nice, and very cool intro. and aso far al the units have gone where i told them. they have gone the way i told them and they behave the way i want them too. they dont move when i dont want them too, they dont run after enemy faints. not sure of some of the special unit's mental abilities yet. all in there is no frustration factor yet, as you get with some rts.

there is the use of cover, so you can place your trrops in rubble or woods, for better protection. or send them in to a river for less protection. you can not, so far as i can see, put them in buildings.

the units are either squads of infantry, or indivudual vehicle/special characters/engineers. the infantry can not be seperated, but tremains in there built squads. squads can be assigned new weapons and new members, (which appear magically after a 20 secs). a squad has a max of 8 units + 1 special character + 1 sergent.

one feature i like is that when you selcect all units on screen and move them, the enginer is not selected. which i like, most of the time.

the reserch tree, is enough, and can be completed in about an hour of play. and units/squads can be upgraded when you want, by selecting what you want.

the buildings are usefull but can be overwhelmed en mass but not really be individual units. the defence structure is ok and can be upgraded. this is ok for start of game but is usless once enemy tech level is above a certian point.

the skimish game is great fun. and the game only last a set time, so the limitation of the research tree is about right. so games are geared for a hour/hour and a half.

the game is fast paced. although you set set up static defence in chock point and admire the animation and upgrade upgrade upgrade. then lauach an offence.

the game style is like bf1942, in that it is full of control points. a map has between 10-20 control points of differnece types. your units stop the enemy control of a control points, then one of your men places a flag in the control points to capture it. the control points either give resource or access to units (relics, but i am unsure of the detail of this totally) and allow special building on certain ones (power stations etc).

you can only have a certain number of infantry squads, and a certian number of vehicles, these can be increaced but it takes time to research these max caps. so there will be no rush strategies.

there are no flying units, there are hover, but these cant do much differnece from ground as yet. some of the units can teleport with creates inane defenceive fun.

all in all, great fun and it reminds me of "total annialation", fast fun and very easy to follow and control.

cant wait to play this online.

Ill order it from play when i get in then, it appears that there is a lovely wall hack bug whereby any firing unit can shoot through any solid obstacle.

Apparently

very true. on some of the city type maps, your troops shoot at anything in range. on the country side maps, with canyon sides. this prob disappears as you dont defend that near a corner, so you set up back form the corner.

just been playing a skirmish , me and other computer marine against 2 orc computers. great laugh. just about won. got a holding points victory, just as my wlakers were striding up to thier base.

note that most units with upgrades have to be staionary to fire, or prepare to fire. so alternativly moving 2 squads up together works well.

glad i got u guys interested in this, i certainly will be playing it at the next lan!!!!

FYI the relics give the race that u are the power to creat ur unique characters for your race, eg terminators for space marines, avatar for the eldar etc

the ai is tough in this game, me and 4 buds can take on 4 bots on standard but theres hard very hard and insane after that,  :S think we will be there a while with these we normally get wiped out after 5-10 mins

apparently they are bringing out the add ons for the Tau and the Tyranids in the future, this game is gonna rock!!

ooooh tyranids.

Anyone got any good squad heavy weapon mixes yet ? I normally go for 2 missiles, 1 flamer and 1 hvy bolter early on, and then mostly 4 missiles hiding behind the robot guys.

The screenshots give a different impression of the game as they are all taken from ground level and the game is played from normal rts height...
