How to get Balanced tourni teams.
« on: September 21, 2004, 09:48:54 AM »
Anyone got any suggestions?

I was thinking of  - tallest one end, shortest other picking & alternate players

[LANSE] would be split 50/50 as per
i5-2500k
Asus P8P67
2x 4gb DDR3 1600 hz OCZ
1 x Dell Perc 6/i
4 x Samsung 2TB (raid 5)
1 x WD VelociRaptor WD3000HLFS
Asus 5870 1gb PCI-E

I suppose we could sort something out with the games on friday night?

Can't think of an easy way to do it tho.

list of names randomise them by any method. Otherwise you'll spend far too much time trying to pick "fair teams"

Ranking would encourage people to try and get a specific place.

I'm going with Jason's tallest/shortest idea.  Quick and easy and fair.

...unless taller people are better at gaming :p

Assign everyone a number and run a random number generator to assign the teams

a random number genarator will pick the same numbers twice  ;-)

If it's random (without any intervention) it's likely that they'll be come unbalanced.

Maybe worth thinking about if LANSE are split first

I guess that was one way to interpret it.

but seeing as Adam has mentioned it, you could take the scores from various games on Friday night (Don't say exactly which ones) bung em in a spreadsheet and number them off.

There are many different levels at which this can fall on it's arse, plus it's a pain for whoever is recording them, (maybe someone could set up an bot or something to output scores) but is over complex don't you think?

Viper's idea is the most random and therefore most fair though I

With the use of the =rand() function in excel and a few 1's and 2's it can all be nicely randomised

get an old set of playing cards, and sort them
ace,ace,ace,ace,two,two,two,two,etc
or
red/black/red/black.
or
ace/two/three/etc

as people come in to the lanse room give them the top card.

they can stick the card to thier pc.

then for matches you can do either.

red vs black.
or
odd vs even.
or
other.

decide on the day which is which, and people know which team they are on, or they can look at the card on thier pc.

as a mini tourney type thing
you could do have 4 teams
spade/club/heart/diamond

one thing that must be doen is to put the teams onto the intra net so that you dont get ppl going 'which team am i on?' after they have had a pint.
